Earn $1000 in DWP Rebates By Replacing Your Old Pool Pump

The Southern California Department of Water & Power (DWP) is offering a program for residential customers with in-ground swimming pools to receive a $1000 rebate for replacing their old single-speed pool pumps with new energy efficient variable-speed pumps.

Variable Speed Pumps (VSP) are adjustable and designed to run at much lower speeds. This means the electricity used to filter the water is much lower, saving the homeowner The cost of a new VSP is around $1500 and saves the home owner hundreds on their electric bill yearly!  So, basically the homeowner is getting the VSP for free.  And it will save them a ton of money on electric bills over the years

The program is set up like this:

  • $500 rebate for getting the VSP
  • $500 rebate for having it installed by a “Certified Technician”

The DWP wanted the VSP’s to be installed by a Certified Technician to insure that it is properly set to the best settings to save electricity.  The extra $500 was added because homeowners were installing the VSP pumps but not having them set correctly.  They were running them just like a single speed pump so there was no energy savings.

“The Certified Pool Pump Replacement (CPPR) Program offers, for a limited time, up to a $1,000 rebate to LADWP residential customers who have in-ground swimming pools filtered with a single-speed pool pump. This retrofit installation program is intended to retire older, inefficient single-speed pool pumps and motors and replace them with qualifying energy-efficient variable-speed pool pumps and motors installed by certified technicians.”
